Web & Audio Server Advice Sought

G'day there One and All,

I'm in the process of setting up a home network using Xubuntu 6.06.1
(to which I've since added Gnome & KDE desktops, kinda defeating the
purpose of using Xubuntu. But that's another story).

I intend to set up a server for the usual firewall, mail, squid, dhns,
etc, and also include streaming server to provide music to the desktop
PCs that we have. I've found a few free music streamers, although I've
not yet decided on a finalist. Nor have I determined which http server
to use.

It seems to me that Apache & Roxen will be total overkill for my
limited needs. Playing music & testing my webpages doesn't really
require an enterprise grade server, I'd have thought.

I know that the Ubuntu server distro will give me Apache when I use the
LAMP install menu entry, but I wonder if anyone here has any experience
of the smaller alternatives? I've inspected a few repositories and found
the following:
Boa, thttpd, lighttpd, dhttpd, yaws, and zope (as well as roxen3/4
apache2)

...but I know nothing about any of them other than that Apache runs
most websites.

When it comes to audio servers I know even less than that. According to
their websites, [A]mpache runs on any webserver and only needs mySQL &
PHP. Jinzora only needs PHP, although there are a couple of recommended
assistant apps, while Zina says it needs Apache with a php module.
Subsonic requires Tomcat so that again wants Apache.

Surely it's not necessary that I have to build an entire commercial
sized webserver for my modest usage. But then again, exactly how much
space is Apache likely to take?

Does anyone have experience with these web and audio servers, whether
in combination or not? Any advice or recommendations gratefully
accepted.
