Also, how do I install Real Player? I downloaded it and the install instructions. these are the instructions:

When I open a terminal & type "chmod a+x RealPlayer10GOLD.bin", I get a message which reads "chmod: cannot access `RealPlayer10GOLD.bin': No such file or directory".
I am a total newbie.

One thing you might try for your modem is to right click on a tool
bar>add to panel>modem monitor>add. I think that will give you a place
to go for a drop down menu to connect and disconnect. Or you can go to
System>Administration>Networking. You will need to type in your
password, then a screen will come up with options to activate, or
deactivate connections.

The easiest way to install realplayer is to open synaptic:
System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager. Either search for
"realplay", or you can find it listed in the graphics section in
alphabetical order.

While you have synaptic open, you might want to:
Settings>Repositories. And check everything in there. Then click the
reload button. This will make more packages available to you.
