compile linux-restricted-modules

hi,
I'm trying to compile a patched kernel for testing purposes. I've
followed the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelCustomBuild
and successfully built a patched kernel, yay. However I need to also
compile linux-restricted-modules, I think, as the wireless doesn't work
under my patched kernel.
anyway I can't find instructions on that step anywhere and as the normal
debian make-kpkg modules_image is not recommended, I'm not sure what
exactly to do. any suggestions?
thanks,
matt
