Hello,

Forgive me if I'm in the wrong place. I'm new to Linux & Ubuntu, and know
little about hardware.

I'm having problems trying to install Ubuntu 6.06 on a brand new system:

Intel motherboard with integrated video/sound
1 Intel 6600 Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz CPU
2 gb RAM (4 x 512mb)
2 x 320GB SATA hard drives

Coo, you've copied me! :-)

That's identical with my system, you're not using an Abit AB9 Pro
motherboard as well by any chance are you?! (No, you're not as you
have integrated video, but still a pretty similar system)

Anyway, you're going to find it difficult to get up and running on
that hardware, it's just a bit too close to the 'bleeding edge' for
all the required drivers to be in the install kernel.

You're problem almost certainly lies with the CD/DVD drive being on a
PATA (i.e. old fashioned IDE) interface which isn't recognised by the
Linux kernel. It boots using the BIOS and then can't see the CD to
continue.

On my system Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy beta *does* see the CD drive OK, you
might find that will work on yours as well.
