media player for Ubuntu not working

I am unable to play any movies/songs on my DVD ROM (Samsung Combo drive).
Error message says "cannot open file...." or something like this. I have
TOTEM installed.

I don't think i should have a virus as I have not used any form of input
media other than Cds/DVDs for the 5.x and 6.x OS' ( I had Dapper Drake installed
over the 5.x version. Are there any additional files/plug ins that i need to
download (I do not have an internet connection for my home computer)

sincerely,

tobias
