Also what are the drawbacks of fat32 apart from performance. Am I
correct there are issues with long filenames (seem to remember
something about this).

Common mistake is to forget the -F 32 option when using mkfs.vfat, might
do the trick.


(i.e. "mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/sdXY" (where XY is the relevant disk/parition)
