Re: no USB in Edgy [SOLVED] <-- needed a custom kernel

Since nobody responded I guess I am alone in this, but I solved the problem
anyways. I took a kernel from http://www.kernel.org/ and compiled it for my
system. Everything works now, including all my USB devices... Strange that
nobody else has had this problem. It really is a problem with the stock Edgy
kernel...

I discovered where it goes wrong in Edgy: the kernel! This is the problem:
The Edgy stock kernel doesn't let me use usb. The 'lsusb' command crashes
or gives an empty list:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
This also happens with a live cd. I knew it worked in Dapper, so I took a
Dapper i386 kernel from a live cd and put it in my /boot. I edited my
/boot/grub/menu.lst to load the Dapper kernel for my edgy system. Now all
usb devices DO WORK in Edgy!!!! Of course there were other problems, but
this certainly shows that the Edgy stock kernel isn't perfect. I am kind of
surprised no one else encountered this problem. Anyways, should I file this
as a bug, and if so: where? And what can I do to let my Edgy system use a
correct kernel that does work with my system? TIA!
