very cool! If I could get a my other peripherals working with
Ubuntu/Linux (printer/webcam), I'd have more useful buttons to use...

Well, yes - have a look at System-Preferences- Keyboard Shortcuts,
find something, highlight it and hit the key - for example I just made my
left "Windows key" do "start terminal " - is that Linux/Ubuntu-esque
enough? *grin*
You can do the same for the Applications menu - the default is <alt><F2>
but by the method above you can override that.
