[feisty] problem with upgrading and xgl/beryl on i855 laptop

Hello list,
I've got an Inspiron 700m laptop with integrated intel 855GM/GME
display adapter. I recently upgraded to feisty and I had been using
the beryl packages from
deb http://xgl.compiz.info/ dapper main-dapper
with no problem under dapper, however they apparently stopped
downloading when i changed the repo names to fiesty.
I restarted my machine anyway, and after login at the gdm prompt, I
got nothing but a white screen with greyish boxes... no fonts, no
decorations, no menus, nothing.
So I figured I probably ought to upgrade the beryl packages. I found
this wiki entry:
http://wiki.beryl-project.org/wiki/Install_Beryl_on_Ubuntu_Feisty_with_AIGLX
and followed the directions for AIGLX configuration. When i did the
gdm restart nothing happened so I restarted the machine and after gdm
login, I get a blank white desktop, nothing but the mouse cursor is
visible.
What have I broken? How do I fix it? I am running in FVWM for the
moment because every time i start gnome, even without running my xgl
startup script, it does this. FVWM is okay but i miss my gnome. Please
help :)
Thanks,
Sam
