so, I went into the administration networking tool and unchecked the
wireless connection, networkManager still doesn't show my wireless card
and won't give me anything with which to select a newtwork
do I have to go and delete the wireless network card option in the
networking tool?
if this is the case, how would I get it back?
TIA

ok, I got wireless up and running, but I can't select a network, I have

also, wireless doesn't seem to be working with NetworkManager
any ideas?
If you configure the adapter with the network administration control
panel, network manager might not want to manage it. I would go into the
network control panel and disable the device. Reboot, and you should
find network manager controlling it (that's what I did on my g4-based
Mac Mini).

can anyone explain/point me to someone who can explain how to install a
driver/use the bcm4318 wireless card built in to my iBook G4?
I am using edgy
$ sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure bcm43xx-fwcutter
(select "yes" when asked if you want to download the firmware)
$ sudo reboot
When the machine comes back up, you should be able to use wireless on, I
think, eth1. It should also work with network manager, if you have that
installed.
Bear in mind there is a problem with the bcm43xx drivers on edgy:
