I just went to the Source-o-Matic and selected everything but the
bleeding edge, source, and repos of whom I'd never heard before. I had
it generate a seemingly-authorative sources.list (below) and it still
can't be found.
# Automatically generated sources.list
# http://www.ubuntu-nl.org/source-o-matic/
#
# If you get GPG errors with this sources.list, locate the GPG key in
this file
# and run these commands (where KEY is replaced with that key)
#
# gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys KEY
# gpg --export --armor KEY | sudo apt-key add -
#
# If you don't know what to do with this file, read

If it's in Universe, I must have my own flashlight in my eyes.
Anyone throw me a clue-rope?

Change everything that references the us archive:
us.archive.ubuntu.com
to
uk.archive.ubuntu.com
archive.ubuntu.com and us.archive.ubuntu.com in particular has constant
problems resolving. Yesterday and today I was unable to get it to
resolve at all. Changing to the uk mirror fixed it for me.
