MPlayer problems with new Feisty upgrade

Hi, Just upgraded to Feisty today. Everything seemed OK. I played one avi
(divx) movie file in mplay (actually gmplayer) OK. A bit later on I went to
watch a different video file and it got stuttery and threw up an error "too
many video packets in the buffer". I have since tried a lot of other video
files and find that most of them give the same error, but some do not.
.mpg, .rmvb and .avi all have problems... but some .avi files do not. I
don't understand why. I have been using mplayer for ages without problems. I
am using the version downloaded from the multiverse repositories. Any idea
what is going on here and how to fix it?
