Working like a charm, here!
Clean Feisty install on Toshiba Tecra M2 (32 bit pentium). Enabled the visual effects, which triggered the automatic download of the proprietary accelerated drivers for the NVidia graphics accelerator.
Then installed the Medibuntu repository ( http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repository.php ) and selected Google Earth in the packages available through the package manager.
That's it. Not a single additional step. Pure vanila stuff.
Gilles.

My system jumps to the login screen ?? Whoa not going there again.
Probably due to FireFox 64bit.
The race is on to get 64bit going I hope Ubuntu takes the lead.

III 700 MHz, too. Aging GeForce FX5500 video using the proprietary
NVidia drivers.
My GE options are as follows in case it makes a difference:
3D View tab
Detail Area = Medium
Texture Colors = True Color, Compress = On
Anisotropic Filtering = Off
Labels/Icon Size = Medium
Graphics Mode = normal (not safe mode)
Show Lat/Long = UTM
Show Elevation = meters, km
Terrain Quality = 40%
Elevation Exaggeration = 1 Overview Map:
Map Size = 30%
Zoom Relation = infinity
The other settings are likely not relevant since it is genrally the 3d
stuff that makes a difference.
Jack
results are exactly the same - crashes directly to the login screen.
Indeed. I have nice Ubuntu workstation and it locks up completely my entire system.
So much for Google Earth.
