Is the printer enabled and accepting? What's the output of:
$ lpstat -t

If the output doesn't say 'enabled' and 'accepting' then use one or both
of the following commands:
$ cupsenable printer_name
$ cupsaccept printer_name

says, that it works "mostly" ;-))
