glx desktop effects, Top Panel gone black, 3d switcher not working

Ime using Desktop effects with a nVidia GeForce 7300 GS (rev a1) card.

The top panel has changes its background color to black and I cant
read the writing, the icons are OK. This used to be OK and I have
tried logging out/in and rebooting.

Also the 3d workspace switcher does not work. It switches with a fade
in/out but no 3d.

Anyone got any ideas about how to sort either of these problems?
