Firefox constantly having problems connecting to web sites

Firefox seems to be very impatient. I'm working on installing OpenExchange
and part of it involves downloading a whole bunch of .jar files and every
time I click on a link instantly I get the "Unable to Connect" screen. After
I click "Retry" 20 or 30 times eventually it connects and gets me to the
page. But there must be a setting someplace to tell Firefox to wait bit
longer for the web page to reply?
