You should not rely on Ubuntu packaged system tree for building a firmware.

The clean method should be to set up a chroot environment, installing
all relevant soures and do all builds including required libraries in
there. May be there are some cross compiling directives required as
welll because the Linksys probably will not run on a binary code
compiled for latest intel chips.
