I have recently upgraded my laptop (thinkpad r40) from Edgy to Fiesty.https://bugs.beta.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/50031
I'm still testing, but most things seem to work without tweeking.
However, when I hibernate the laptop and then resume, the function
buttons for things like screen brightness and sound volume don't work.
I tried restarting acpi (sudo /etc/init.d/acpid restart) but that has no
effect. On the forums found an instruction to add ec_intr=0 to the #
defoptions line of /boot/grub/menu.lst (and run update-grub). That does
not seem to help.
The odd thing is that the system seems to "save" the instructions being
given by the Fn keys. I can push the "up volume" button and nothing
happens if I've suspended. But after a reboot & login the volume
indicator flashes and then the volume changes happen.
Anyone have thoughts on where I should go hunting next?
I would check the above link and see if this is your problem.
I did not get my T60 to work with hibernation or suspend to disk but i
run on AC 90% of the time so it has not been a big priority.
Sorry i couldn't be of more help.
