Devede is no where near as featureful as Cinelera. It supports chapters,
but only by allowing you to specify 'chapters are x minutes apart'. It
will, for example, rip up a movie for you and set a chapter mark every 5
minutes by default. It's pretty useless, and is the first thing I turn
off when ripping a movie. To have 'real' chapter support, you'd need to
hack up the video first, and then arrange it in the title yourself. A
very (ugly) manual process. Plus, it doesn't add menu's for you. There
really ISN'T a good DVD authoring tool for Linux yet, that I am aware.
I'd love some suggestions on that topic myself. My requirements would be
that it not only rip existing stuff, but that it have built in menu
editing features, even rudimentary ones.


Looks like you need several tools. Others will have better suggestions
about ripping or backing up existing disks. In my looking around it
seems you need something to edit your vids with (cinelera or kino or the
like) then, when you have edited each "chapter", something to put them
together with and chapters and etc.


While searching, I ran across qdvdauthor (that's a Q) It's a frontend
for other tools, and apparently works well. Googled up this article on

Also, it appears to be in multiverse. Be interesting to know if anyone
has any recent experience with it?
