Re: Changing the resolution of a virtual terminal

Felix Miata keyed the following on 6/24/2007 7:51 PM:
On 2007/06/24 13:47 (GMT-0400) Pete Holsberg apparently typed:

sudo hwinfo --framebuffer

Here's what I got from hwinfo:

product name [0x07f54] = "Intel(r)845G/845GL/845GE/845GV Graphics
Controller" product revision [0x07f87] = "Hardware Version 0.0" 22
video modes:
...
I tried vga=0x0117 and 010c and 0114 but still have no joy.

I installed Feisty on i845G today. hwinfo --framebuffer here lists
only mode 301, 640x480.

I've tried framebuffer on a lot of distros over the years, and IIRC,
on i8xx video chips the only thing besides vga=normal that ever works
with standard framebuffer is vga=0x120. There are others that should
work, but don't: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7513

There is or was once an i810fb alternative, but I've never managed to
get it to work. http://i810fb.sourceforge.net/howto/x11.html

X11? We're not talking about resolution under X Windows System here, are we?
