That's because /dev/fd/0 is file descriptor 0, which is the standard input.

Try /dev/fd0 instead. Note that this one doesn't have the slash before the 0.

ok thanks. Btw, the question i was asking was as is:

im trying to mount my usb floppy drive (/dev/fd/0 /mnt/fdd) and mount
returns me with the following error:

/dev/fd/0 is not a block device

i also tried to access my floppy drive just using KDE and it is not
working it set up fine according to dmesg and it workes excellent on
other computers which do not run ubuntu or run ubuntu 6.06

How do i get it to work properly?
