Trouble with M-audio Audiophile USB Sound Card

Hello:

I have the Audiophile USB card installed along with Alsa and several Gstream
plugins. The card can play the sin wave sound when USB Audio Device is
selected. It won't play the sin wave if Alsa is selected. Even when USB sound
is selected though, the only thing that makes a noise is the test. If any of
the other audio sounds are attempted, no sound is made.

At the command line, the Audiophile does not work with amixer so apparently it
has no onboard mixing. Also, it seems to want to be addressed at the hardware
level. My guess is that some sort of specification has to be placed in
alsa.conf but have no idea what it might be.

Any advice and/or assistance on using this card would be appreciated.
