how to tweak the touchpad?

Laptop is Lenovo (IBM) ThinkPad T60
It's running Ubuntu 7.04
The touchpad is driving me nuts. It seems to be very sensitive, and it's
interpreting the pressure from my finger as a "click". All sorts of
things go wrong - all I want is to move the cursor, while instead it
drags the window underneath it, or it clicks on buttons, etc.
I feel like I'm going to throw the stupid thing out the window.
Is there a way to disable the pseudo-click on the touchpad? I don't want
it to be "smart" and generate a click when I push it. If I want to click
on something, I will just push the click button, thank you very much.
This pseudo-click that's generated when I just push a little harder on
the touchpad is stupid.
I hope this can be fixed in software. I looked at the BIOS and there's
no option to disable the phantom click.
