(left side) : /apps/nautilus/desktop/
on the right-hand, de-select "volumes_visible" checkbox.

was just pointing to Derek that the icons are there by default, by
opposition of what he stated. The OP wanted to have his icons back...
but thanks... Now I know how to remove the icons if I want to :)
