Laptop Blank Screen Problem

Hi,

I am using Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 on my HP Compaq NX 6120.
I am facing a problem where in when I close my Laptop Lid or when the ACPI
switch off the LCD screen after prolonged inactivity, after I resume from
the blank screen the Xorg runs very slow. The mouse pointer just wanders,
and the GUI is unusable. I tried to move to text mode by ALT-F1 but the I
cannot see any text console instead I see only a big mouse pointer and
nothing else.

I tried restarting Xorg but it doesn't work. The only solution would be to
restart the system.
