The IDE one (Media storage+the problem) has the pin saying that
it is
a master and also has a slave(cd-rom).
Does it also have cable select? If so try that.
IDE hard drives, CDroms etc have a jumper or jumpers that 'choose'
one of three modes.
1 - Master
2 - Slave
3 - Cable Select
- i.e. whether a drive is Master or Slave is determined by it's
position on the cable.
Often (but not always) you'll see this labelled as
M S C
A L S
Read it vertically - MAster, SLave and Cable Select.
Sometimes there are variations like Master (Single) and Master (with
slave present).
If you have two devices on one cable, make sure either
A) one of them is master and one is slave,
or
B) set them both to cable select.
It sounds like you have the hard drive set to 'master with slave
present' already, so make sure the other device is set to slave.
If that doesn't work, change them both to cable select.
Note, there is such a thing as a bad drive cable! If it's not
making sense, trying a known good 80 pin cable is a good idea too.
