Are there plans to add IRB and Rails to the official repositories? I wonder
why they're not added yet.

A security issue affects the following Ubuntu releases:

Ubuntu 7.10

This advisory also applies to the corresponding versions of
Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and Xubuntu.

The problem can be corrected by upgrading your system to the
following package versions:

Ubuntu 7.10:
emacs22 22.1-0ubuntu5.1

In general, a standard system upgrade is sufficient to effect the
necessary changes.

Details follow:

Drake Wilson discovered that Emacs did not correctly handle the safe
mode of "enable-local-variables". If a user were tricked into opening
a specially crafted file while "enable-local-variables" was set to the
non-default ":safe", a remote attacker could execute arbitrary commands
with the user's privileges.

Good day everybody

I am a linux newbie. I have been using ubuntu feisty fawn since it was
released. I have several niggling little faults that I need iron out.

I have installed ubuntu on my laptop as a dual boot system with THAT
OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM. There is only one app that I have to use in
windows that prevents me from making a complete switch. Unfortunately it
is not available for Linux. I can run it through wine, but in demo mode
only. It is a cad package called Genes1s. The problem comes when I have
to install the USB dongle. It involves over-writing two dll`s. This does
not seem to want to work, or I am not doing it correctly. I need help
copying files the two files into the Genes1s directory. I have tried it
with the wine program manager but it does not work or I am doing
something wrong.

Please help
Gavin

There's your problem - you missed a level of directory:

/etc/network/if-up.d/iptables.up.rules

or

/etc/network/if-pre-up.d/iptables.up.rules

Well actually, I put the rules file in /etc/network/
Do they need to be in the same directory as the script (which is in
/etc/network/if-pre-up.d/) ?

Thanks,

I've always just used < sudo checkinstall >. And, it installs the
package for you as well as putting the package in the source folder for
you to save and use for other things.

I guess -D and "make install" are the defaults. The general form,
according to the manpage:

checkinstall [options] [install command]

And then there is:

DESCRIPTION
checkinstall is a program that monitors an installation procedure
(such as make install, install.sh )

So I guess that omitting the install command is fine if you need the
default, but it can be used even if the installer requires a different
command. Nice to know :)

I also have one of those programs, and it uses a dongle. Wine was
useless for this app. I was able to get the program up in
vmware-server, but the dongle would not cooperate. There was another
thread here not too long ago that spoke of a similar issue, in which a
response was made to plug the usb dongle in prior to powering on the
virtual machine (although I have not tried this yet, I intend to give it
a go when I get back to my office).

Thanks I will it out myself
