It is quite strange that it works sometimes, and other times not. I had a
strange problem where the system would sometimes hang while logging in. I
was able to workaround this by disabling hyperthreading in the bios. You
could try disable hyperthreading, or dual-core functionality if you have
that. If that helps, you could report this as a bug in launchpad.
