the windows was setup in the same pc but on different HDD. i have 2 HDD the
something is wrong. the drive is not recognized by the USB-drivers (nor
by windoze)
Is the windows setup on the same computer? then try another computer
first, as your USB ports maybe faulty
1st was for windows and the 2nd Ubuntu (/dev/sdb). i tried it in another
PC, thank god we have 3 at home, but it didn't work either.

using the same usb port for each drive? maybe one of the ports is
faulty. does it take power from the usb? is there another way to power
the drive? lots of usb issues crop up when the port can't power the
device. unplug any usb devices on that hub you don't need so it has the
max power available for your drive. does that make a difference?
hope that helps.
i have 4 usb ports at the back, and 1 in the front, panel of the pc. other 2
usb drivers are always plugged in 2 ports located at the back. they work
fine. since i use this 300GB driver as mobile backup (have to move it from
room to room doing backup for my girlfriend and my laptop) i connected in
the front.
i tried disconnect all other external drivers so the power should not be an
issue (by the way, all my usb drivers have their own power supply so i don't
think they took power from usb port. i guess that will be the case for
pocket driver? ).
the good news is i have most of my data, except the recent updated files,
burned in DVD. in case nothing worked to "rescue" this damn driver, i have
to re-format it.
now the problem is: i don't even know how to do it since i cannot just right
click the icon in windows, nor mount it in ubuntu, to format it.
