Hello,
I have downloaded both instructor.pdf and student.pdf files for desktop
course (linked from newsletter #71 and elsewhere) several times, via
dial-up. In each case, kpdf reports "could not open", -- though I can
open other pdf downloads without problem. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thankyou.

Not sure if this will help or not, but here is what I have for those files:
Size:
$ ls -s Ubuntu*
74372 UbuntuTraining_Instructor.pdf 74308 UbuntuTraining.pdf
md5sum:
$ md5sum Ubuntu*
c02f0db512a6c0e733b7e624fe65bcf4 UbuntuTraining_Instructor.pdf
a61d018e7075a3fcbd6c6ccd3e10f16a UbuntuTraining.pdf
Perhaps you can check the md5 sums of your files and see if they match.
