Hello everyone
I have a test Laptop, currently Ubuntu 7.10 and fedora as double boot
installed. Because of webcam driver development I decided to trash
the first partition and install Windoz on it. But this was not
possible, the Windoz install CD did not boot on this laptop :-(. I
tried the CD on a other PC and it was booting just fine! Today, I
bought a new HD for that laptop and now the Windoz install CD just
booted fine!? and I could install Windoz!
Does the Windoz XP Pro install CD have some "anti" Linux detection?
Anyone out there had the same experience?
Thomas
I *thought* that I could verify your problem... but it turns out that I
just have a flakey cdrom drive in my laptop.
Tried booting from WinXPPro CD and the laptop (A21M Thinkpad) and it
would go straight to grub. Ditto for knoppix, so I knew I had a hw
problem. I finally let it boot all the way to Ubuntu & discovered that I
needed to slam (mildly of course) the darn drive closed to get the CD to
fire up & recognize the CD in the drive. Once I had it showing up in
Ubuntu, I did a standard shutdown with the CD still in the drive &
powered back on. Then it booted just fine.
Not sure if your problem is the same, but you might want to check your hw.
