No, not in this case. Sometimes a person needing
help
just needs a simple straight forward answer to a
direct question for him to make progress.

The question you asked made no sense, because (a) it
_is_ the
default /etc/hosts you would get in a brand new
installation and (b) you
didn't bother to tell us why you felt it was causing
a problem.

Here's where we differ. It was not the default hosts
file. I myself have modified it several times. And it
does not agree with the just installed Ubu-gutsy
/etc/hosts file on the 64 bit version. The file was
modified by me the first time when I had the trouble
with postfix, mutt, /etc/hosts, etc, Lost my backup
somehow; don't remember now. And asked at that time
how I could get the default back. There was no viable
answer to the question. Don't take offense because
this is the facts from by insight and viewpoint. If
you are saying something else in Items a and b above
then it's just not coming through to me, sorry.
So, I'll ask straight forward again, will rming the
/etc/host/ file regenerate the original first install
version or at least a correct rendition, if not how?
I really would like the answer to this question, I
think it's important to a Linux user and could be
important in the future if one doesn't have a backup.
You can be assured that the first thing I do after the
gutsy reinstall is to backup the whole ?etc dir, but I
still would appreciate the answer to my question.

fwiw, I think you're barking up the wrong tree ...
again. There's nothing
in that /etc/hosts to affect your WIFI
