Re: Javascript & java in Gutsy 64bit version

Certainly won't be found in Add/Remove Programs. Try looking in Synaptic
and seeing whether you can find the packages there. Also, in the 64-bit
forum, there have been many fantastic posts by a gentleman named Kilz
explaining the nuances of 64-bit trick-outs, like adding Flash for
64-bit and Java. (I believe the newest version of Flash made this much
easier, but I'm not sure.)

I receive messages *like* this regularly:

"The Camtasia Studio video content presented here requires JavaScript
to be enabled and the latest version of the Macromedia Flash Player.
If you are you using a browser with JavaScript disabled please enable
it now. Otherwise, please update your version of the free Flash Player
by downloading here <http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer>."

I am not sure how to check whether Java or javascript are installed on
my Gutsy install.

1. 'Add/Remove Applications' shows the following are installed:

1.1 Sun Java 6 Web Start
Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 (architecture dependent
files)

1.2 Sun Java 5.0 Runtime
Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 (architecture
dependent files)

2. 'Add/Remove Applications' shows the following are NOT installed:

2.1 Sun Java 6 Console
Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 6

2.2 Java Web Start 1.4
Blackdown Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition

2.3 Sun Java 5.0 Console
Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 5.0

2.4 Java 1.4 plugin for mozilla/firefox
Java plugin for firefox

I can't find any reference to javascript in 'Add/Remove Applications'.

My Firefox V 2.0.012 browser has 'Javascript enabled' and 'java
enabled' in its preferences.

Could anybody advise me please?? (I am fairly new to the Linux world)

Brian
