Re: Loading Windows Xp

Sounds like your disc is bad because windows xp setup would give you an
error No harddrive found not just stall. If the disc is crap you could try
to copying the contents off and using bart pe create a new slipstreamed disc
if you have another windows box. XP home sucks but shouldn't be a problem
with dual booting even with linux installed first. Bios should only have to
be set to legacy mode with brand new machines and if its simply a problem
because its a sata drive which was never mentioned you would hunt down the
drivers at a manufacturers site and hit f6 during setup to load the drivers
off a floppy. The instructions at apcmag that Scott linked are very good and
should just work.

Hi,
don't know if this may help,
I had to reset hard drive mode in bios, win XP would not even recognize

Hope this helps

Well I think my BIOS calls it auto. Are you saying WinXP needs BIOS to
be set to an actual hard drive type? My Linux was never worried :-)

And will the Home version work if I do all this?

Karl

Hi Karl,
can't say, but I tried installing win XP home, having successfully
installed
Ubuntu 7.04, and got message windows doesn't think there is a hard drive
installed.
Not very much work involved in at least trying a different hard drive
setting in the bios to see if it will install.
Think win XP needs drivers for some of the newer hard drives. (does on
my laptop anyway) Install went fine after changing bios setting. Nothing
ventured...
