I guess not! But somewhere this mapping exists for Java 5.

No.

However, I think cosmetic issues can sometimes be a symptom of a real
problem - in this case that Firefox is doing some secret, undocumented
mappings, and does not appear to offer any interface to create, remove
or correct such mappings.

The MIME Edit extension, by the way, does NOT correct the cosmetic
problem. I even *removed* the .jnlp entry using the extension, but
Firefox *still* had the Java 5 mapping! So whatever it is bypasses the
normal mechanism for defining helper applications.

Irritating.
