Re: Mount USB HDD to a certain /media/folder after boot

Hi David
Thanks for your efforts.
I quote into your tex below:

TIA to you all with helping me, it's very appreciated.

i'd reformat everything in ext3 or fat32 (i don't enjoy linux's support
for ntfs) then examine the sharing permissions (samba? nfs?)

Reformat again ???
Using another / one more file system ??
Hopefully, not really ? ;-)

There is a problem with another reformatting again:
My Ubuntu 7.10 DT has GParted 0.3.? which doesn't support disk
labels ! ;-(

So, to get the media uniquely labeled I am using GParted 0.3.6
booting from a Rescue CD. ;-D

i'd also
google a little more and use the UUIDs in my fstab to cement those
drives to being mounted on boot to the same spot every time.

Like Derek wrote, the fstab entry isn't needed.
I have tried this and it proofed correct !

i might
also put a disklabel on them but generally i don't bother for drives
which are part of a system and aren't detached and moved.

Correct, since this external USB HDD is only used for Backup and
emergencies I
prefer the proper identification with its disk label/s and WON'T bother
anything else,
like you wrote just above !! ;-D

but that's just what i'd do.

;-)

Cheers, svobi
