Well, I used xrandr --output "yourInternalMonitor" and I am indeed able to
see the dvd payback on the external monitor. I had to use "LVDS" as the
monitor name to accomplish this tho that seemed to describe the external
monitor. This action closed the internal monitor.

Anyway, how do I reactivate the internal monitor? I tried xrandr --output
"VGA-0" --off and xrandr --output "VGA-0" --on neither did but that did
not work. xrandr --output "LVDS" --on shut down the external monitor;
fortunately rebooting returned the internal monitor.

Is that what I have to do each time to recover the internal monitor.

Also, do you know another way to do all this using a GUI?

To change it, that your external monitor is permanently you primary
monitor, you have to modify your xorg.conf. To get a graphical frontend
