I am using 8.04 ubuntu. Chris had me install fglrx, I am rather certain.
I do not have 'Applications--Other." What, this is supposed to be there?
Perhaps the ubuntu gods are angry with me.
Is there a way to get 'Other?' I could use more GUI controls. Lousy typist
and how do you organize so many options and things?

I did the process again and this resolved the problem. Thanks.
Great.
Now if I can get the video to play on my external monitor.
You wrote you have an ATI Mobile Radeon 9000, but you did not say which
Ubuntu version you are using. I assume Ubuntu 8.04. You also didn't
write whether you use the free ati driver, or the proprietary fglrx, but
I will assume fglrx (I think it's the default now).
If so, you should have the ATI Catalyst Control Center in menu (from the
top panel) Applications > Other. If you don't have that, install the
package fglrx-control.
In the Control Center, try the Display setting. E.g., setting the
displays to "cloned" might help.
