Comments/Problems: I want to try whether my hardware (bought a few days
ago) is supported by booting from CD. When loading the kernel, the
process hangs at 87%.

As the T5750 is a 64-bit processor, I tried the amd64 version of
Kubuntu. The i386 version of Ubuntu (K not forgotten) has the same
problem, however. I tried several options that were mentioned under the
help: noapic, nolapic, vga=771, generic.all_generic_ide=1, mem=512m. It
hangs at 87% when I try to load linux from CD, but also when I select
"Check CD for Defects". "Test Memory" hangs silently (no percentage
seen). Checksums for the ISO images are fine. Do not know how to
calculate checksum of a CD, but two separate CDs have the same problems
so I do not expect problems there.

Do I have to wait a few releases till the hardware is supported?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,
Wim

Hi Wim. Have you tried adding acpi=off to the kernel line?

I also had to disable acpi in the BIOS to get anything to boot. If that
option is there it may be worth a try.

Nigel.

btw, that's with 64 bit AMD 3800+ cpu, and Hardy Heron 8.04 i386
version.

My AMD Sempron 3400+ could be booted with acpi=off but then a number of
functions were missing. It will also boot with nolapic, and then works
much better then with acpi=off.

Aart
