gfortran-4.3 and Hardy

I have just found a bug in gfortran-4.2: unformatted data files are
larger than expected. The bug is absent in gfortran-4.3 . The problem is
that gfortran is not part of Hardy, the Longterm distribution. It is
part of Intrepid. Because I got burned by gutsy, I'm disinclined to
install intrepid. I would hope that the now-stable version of gfortran
would be backported to the current longterm support distribution. Is
this the plan?
