Re: Help recovering information from Windows

I've used INSERT (http://www.inside-security.de/insert_en.html) before.

Live, Bootable CD. Just download and burn it. It boots linux and can
sometimes help you recover data/files/etc it finds on the disks.

Keep in mind, you can spend a LOT of time digging around looking for
stuff, but if you have very important files, this can save ya.

Good luck,
Dustin

I heard you can download and burn an ubuntu live cd and mount the disk
and recover the information that way. I'm just a little shaky about
how to go about doing it.

Beg borrow or buy (they are VERY cheap) a USB HDD enclosure, the ones
for 2.5" form factor drives. Extract the hard disk from your laptop (it
will be easier than you think). Put it in the enclosure, then attach the
enclosure to some other PC and extract what you need from the drive
(assuming it is still there).

If you cannot mount the disk at all, or the data you need doesn't seem
to be there any more, then it is time to get expert help (or give up).

Regards, K.
