Problems installing webcam

Hi, I'm right a new user (and also ubuntu 8.04's).
I've got many problems trying to install a webcam! I've red many threads, many guides, but nothing!.. Ubuntu sees my webcam through command lsusb! I've downloaded the proper drivers, I've done many things but, I say it again: NOTHING!
Please, would you help me?
PS: I've download aMSN and it doesn't work (it suggested me to compile the program before starting).. but I did it.. result? It doesn't work at all!
So, please..
