Hello Everybody
... file in a Microsoft docx format
When I get such an attachment, I act as follows:
STEP 1
====
I download and save the file at some logical place in the HOME directory.
STEP 2
====
I copy the file. While doing so, I change the name of the extension
(.docx) in ".doc"
So, "file.docx" becomes "file.doc".
STEP 3
====
Without any problem, I open "file.doc" with OpenOffice.
is for the students of a public school system then it needs to be
something that is generic enough to be opened by someone with any type
of system.
I wholeheartedly agree with that!
But now you know that there is a simple trick to open .docx files.
Also OpenOffice is constantly renewing in order to be able to open
such 'new' formats.

Does this work for you ever time?
I just tried with one of the documents I received from the school and it
worked :D but it didnt on another. Both just have text, no macros, no
tables or anything that might possibly though it off.
