General distribution upgrades using the default audio configuration
from 8.04 likely will see a regression in the ability to record audio
using a microphone if ALSA is being used through PulseAudio's plugin
routing.

A fix will be in intrepid-updates. In the meantime, please see bug
282316. I've linked to testing packages in my PPA.

If your symptom is more specifically along the lines of inability to
configure the microphone boost level for /direct/ ALSA recording,
please file a bug using Launchpad affecting the `linux' source
package, and attach the output from the script located at
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh .
