Howto install Ubuntu Server with "unrecognised" hardware (Fast Track TX4310)

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server 8.04.1 on a machine with a Fasttrak TX 4310 controller and 3 SATA drives connected.
As soon as I've choosen the install option the "linux kernel loading" box appears, get up to 100% and after thad I get a clear screen with a blinking cursor and the installation stops.
Wenn I install on this machine this with the original controller (on the mainboard) and 1 harddisk attached the installation goes fine. So I assume the Fasttrack controller must be the problem.
There are drivers available, but how can I get the installationprocedure to use these drivers?
I've been looking on the internet but can't find any sollution. (I'm only just begun using Linux, so don't know where to start looking...)
André
