http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=200408 thanks whoever posted
it but this thread was the original thread i followed to set my
hotmail account for evolution. In the posts it is only said i shold
use my ISP as smtp.xxxx.xxx.com/net and the port. but i couldn't
figure out what it should be for hotmail. thanks to every1 who
actually replies to help. any other solutions?
While you may have found the suggestion rude, it was (albeit
entertainingly so IMO) a good suggestion. Had you actually look at most
of the links that first come up using that search, you would have found
information as:

Hotmail Settings
As other web based email services, Hotmail is using the HTTP protocol
for connecting you to your mailbox. If you want to send and receive
Hotmail emails using an email client software, then your software must
support Hotmail HTTP access for your email account. Some email clients,
such as Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook, offer builtin support for
Hotmail accounts, so you only have to select HTTP when you are asked to
select your email account type and select Hotmail as the HTTP Mail
Service Provider.

If you have a MSN Plus et al account, then you can use a POP account:
<http://help.msn.com/(ZmlsdGVyPURIX0ZSRUUmcHJvamVjdD1ob3RtYWlscGltdjEwJm1hcmtldD1lbi1VUyZjdT0mdG10PUhvdG1haWxQSU12MTAma2M9JmZvcm1hdD0=)/Help.aspx?market=en-US&project=HotmailPIMv10&querytype=topic&query=PIM_PROC_ReadPOPMail.htm>
====
If you are a subscriber to MSN Plus, MSN Premium, or MSN Hotmail Extra
Storage, you can view messages from your POP e-mail accounts within MSN
Hotmail. Check your Internet service provider (ISP) e-mail settings to
verify that you have a POP account.

that you can set up with Evolution.
If not, and you continue to wish to use hotmail, then the appropriate
Google search might be:
http://www.google.com/search?complete=0&hl=en&q=ubuntu+%2Bhotmail
That would lead you to the Ubuntu forum link
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=200408) that Joel provided.
as well as similar such as:
<http://www.ubuntugeek.com/send-and-receive-your-hotmail-messages-through-evolution.html>
So, with apologies, let's start over. What specifically did you
attempt/do from the http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=200408
link? Did you read through it all & if so what have you attempted so
far? If you can post that, in as much detail as possible please, then
I'm sure that folks on the list can help you get it working.
Note: you might also want to look at webmail extensions for Thunderbird>
