Re: Right Place?

Hi Fawn

2008/12/5 Fawn <sleepingfawn@xxxxxxxxxxxx>:
I am not sure if I am in the right place or not. I am
thinking of using Linux. Your site was recommended
to me. I have some questions before I download it.
Can I use MS compatible software with Linux?
Can I build webpages with dreamweaver using Linux?
I also use PSP to work with the webpages. Will this
program work with Linux. I have to be able to
build webpages and work with graphics before I
can change.
I am totally tired of MS and crashing.
Thank you for any help you can give me with these
questions. I am totally green/unexperienced with
Linux.
Fawn

Depends on what you want to achieve. Get rid of MS forever, or stay
tied to MS. When you move to a knew operating system you will need to
understand new ways of doing things.

For websites I always encourage hand-coding. Get hold of Quanta and
ditch Dreamweaver. You might be thinking hand-coding no-way. Well that
is the next step, learn. There are a huge variety of websites and
email lists that can help. css-d and web-l are two such lists.

Photoshop is a good programme but much can be accompanied by The Gimp.

However, it is really hard to attempt to switch from one camp whilst
keeping a foot in the other. Why don't you consider dual booting and
trying out the programmes and Ubuntu. It might not be for you.
