Well hell, I almost had the reply finished before I lost connection again. Everything running is very slow motion; something must be slowing machine down, I had a PII that ran faster. Well, here goes again but it never will be the same as original try.

I think the explanation of the wrong wireless network makes
sense. If
network manager is still installed, it may have undone your
static setup
and used DHCP on the other network. How did you do the
manual setup for
the wireless part? Can you post your
/etc/network/interfaces file?
Back to your questions. It's not using DHCP according to all the nm prograns I've looked at which is all. Interface file is:

I don't see anything wrong. Hope you do.
To find out which wireless network you are using, click onI don't have that one anymore in kde but would be happy to go to gnome and check it out as said before. What I see is kwifimanager applet and it's flaky too. I have attached a snapshot of it full screen so you can see it as I couldn't copy anything from it. Hope it gets through. BTW, did an apt search for network manager aplet and have both gnome and kde aplets installed but don't know how to start up the gnome one I think you want. Well heck, I just went to gnome and opened it up; attaching snapshot for you. I don't see anything different from kde but you may. This took a bit of effort due to losing connection and gnome is a little faster than kde as it should. Hope it helps.

networks. Each
network has a bar for the signal level and the network name
on the right
of the bar. On the left of the bar there should be an x in
the line of
the network which is used.
