Matthew Flaschen, you told me to try downloading the alternate CDJim,
text-only version of the Ubuntu live CD.
I tried both the ubuntu-8.10-alternate-amd64.iso.torrent
<http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-alternate-amd64.iso.torrent>
and the ubuntu-8.10-alternate-i386.iso.torrent
<http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-alternate-i386.iso.torrent>,
burned them to a disk
and they did not work. Are these the correct torrents or do I have to
download ubuntu-8.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent
<http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent> or
ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent
<http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent>.
If I did download the ones you were telling me about, could you either
tell me how to run them, or
show me another way to run ubuntu with the requested live cd.
Thanks, Jim
Sorry in advance for such an elementary remark, but it puzzles me that
after all these downloads you still couldn't start Ubuntu.
It should be as easy as placing any one of these CDs in the drive,
turning off your PC and turning it on again, providing your PC is
configured to try first to boot from the CD. Is that the way you are
doing? Booting up with the CR reader?
