I am meant to have a thousand gigs
Don't know if I partitioned wrongly at the beginning as confused me
Is there a way to alter this and to regain my space or at least see it

I would open a commandline and then type

sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda

after you send this within your reply, we will see what your system
thinks of your disk and where its space might be gone.
